The Children’s Post of India

My journey with TCP started as a reader. It was the only daily magazine offering children-friendly news, and to a 6^th grade forced to read the Sunday Times, it was a god gift.

Having always loved writing, a few months later I approached the editors for a chance to write for them. Initially, I was tasked with sending in well-research features; and then, in 2021, they launched the Empower Journalist (EJ) programme…because of my request!

As part of the first batch of the EJ Programme, we were coached by experts in the fields of writing (read: Roopa Pai), photography, news and research. We were then tasked with finding a worthy piece of news, deep-researching and fact-checking it, writing it in language simple enough to be understood by children, and submitting it by a given deadline each week!

This internship not only taught me writing and research, but also working within deadlines and time-limits, important life skills which have helped me in my daily life.

In my second year with TCP as an EJ, I was tasked with taking interviews, and also mentoring the new batch of writers; invaluable experience that taught me to mentor while giving space and respecting others’ creativity.
