Debate

My entry into Debate was quite accidental

I was placed 10th in a list where the top 9 were selected. By chance, one of them backed out last minute, and I was ushered in 2 days before the tournament

It was my first (and worst) Debate performance, but I managed to show steady progress over the course of the tournament and following qualifying rounds, until I was at the 19th position in the national camp to select the national Debate team, and the other 18 were selected.

That’s fate, I guess.

Over the next year, I soaked up all the knowledge and skills I could and won the first tournament.

I never made it into the national team, but I found an outlet to efficiently air my thoughts with an equal opposition. Research, independence, maturity were all skills I learnt along the way.

Debate Became an integral part of my life in middle school. During COVID when others were bemoaning a Lack of opportunities, I was reading up on the latest international news, improving my history and practicing structuring my speeches within time limits.

Today, debate is an integral part of me, having bequeathed me skills, confidence and a passion for MUN.
